The dataset was prepared on 16 October 2026 from the GeoNames South Africa extract. It provides broad national coverage of towns, city sections, suburbs, townships and other populated places, but is not an exhaustive suburb register or certified current municipal-boundary source. Some source groupings may be historical or incomplete.

Adaptations include selected populated places, mapped provinces, retained source parents, identifiers, search shortcuts and aliases. No postal codes or nearest-city parent guesses were added.
